035 Career100-Becoming a TV/Video Editor- An Interview with Michael Williams

Today, almost everything is going mobile. Branding and getting content and stories across the globe happen in a span of seconds. Hundreds of thousands of data are pushed every second of everyday. Dynamic websites are industry standard; and video content- almost a necessity. In this edition of the Career 100 podcast, we look at TV/Video Editors. Michael Williams has a BA in Economics and Psychology from Willamette University. He is an award-winning video and television producer/editor with over twenty years experience in the industry. He worked as a producer, editor and cameraman on the Emmy-winning PBS series, Real Science! for five seasons. He received Emmy nominations as the producer, editor and co-writer of the PBS pledge special, Pulse: The Rhythm of Life, hosted by Academy Award nominee Annette Bening. Michael has been the Supervising Editor for the NFL’s Oakland Raiders weekly programs, Behind the Shield and The Raiders Report since the 2003 season. He received multiple Emmy nominations for both shows and won in 2010. He has also been the producer and/or editor for national programs on The History Channel, HGTV, Discovery/Travel, TechTV and Fox Sports Net. Michael was a lead editor on the History Channel’s Man, Moment, Machine and Tactical to Practical. As a producer/editor for TechTV, Michael shaped content for national programs such as Fresh Gear, Gamespot, Audiofile, Internet Tonight and many others. His non-broadcast credits include a wide-ranging number of videos, CD-ROMs, DVDs, video e-mails and internet projects for clients such as Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Cisco, AT&T, Genentech, Sheraton, Logitech, Sun Microsystems, BMW and SEGA. In 2009, Michael started GuruTube.Net, a website dedicated to objective, informational videos by widely acknowledged experts in a variety of fields and disciplines. In 2012, he produced, directed and edited a short film, Please Hold.
