Art, in whatever form, is one of those things that add value to life. It’s for this reason that people, in turn, give much value to art. In this edition of the Career 100 podcast, Felicia Gopaul interviews Art Curator Mar Hollingsworth, who will share to us her deep appreciation for art, why she chose to become an Art Curator, and why she thinks this career is one of the Top 100 of the decade.

Mar Hollingsworth holds an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from the University of Southern California and she also pursued her doctorate (ABD) at the School of Fine Arts, University Complutense of Madrid, Spain, where she had previously graduated with a BA in Fine Arts/Arts Conservation. Since her first arrival to the California African American Museum in 1998, Ms. Hollingsworth has acquired a wide experience as an educator and visual arts curator, organizing and curating retrospectives of prominent figures such as Milton Bowens, Artis Lane, Dewey Crumpler and John T. Scott. She has a particular interest in exhibitions that bridge Latino and African American cultures such as Common Ground and Inside My Head: Intuitive Artists of African Descent, both presented at CAAM. She has recently curated the largest retrospective of the Mexican artist Miguel Covarrubias that focused on his representations of peoples of African Descent. In addition, Ms. Hollingsworth is preparing a major show about self taught artists from the American South scheduled to open fall 2013.
