FAQ
What is College Funding Resource all about?
We recommend strategies that aid families in reducing the after-tax cost of college. Our team of professionals offers planning opportunities and solutions that you may not have been previously exposed to, that reduce the cost of college.
Who is our typical client?
Our typical client does not expect to qualify for much, if any, need-based financial aid. They are upper-income families with a sophomore, junior or senior in high school.
When’s the best time to sign up for your services?
Don’t wait until the last minute. The more time we have to work with you, the better our chances of helping you reduce the out-of-pocket cost of college.
Why should I pay for your services? I’ve been told that I can go through the college planning process on my own.
It is absolutely true that the college planning process can certainly be done on your own. While most people understand that fact, they often require assistance with completion of the process. If you’re the type of parent who wants to learn the college planning process, researching the most appropriate colleges financially, completing the numerous financial aid forms, or appealing for additional financial aid; then you should do it on your own. However, if you are looking for a firm that can take care of these things for you and hold your hand during the process, then College Funding Resource is the choice.
Why can’t any financial advisor do this type of planning?
College funding planning requires specialized knowledge. In fact, uninformed tax and financial planning can actually end up costing you more money for college. Smart financial advisors and accountant do not try to be all things to all people. They concentrate on their area of expertise and find other experts in unfamiliar arenas. It helps them add value to their client base without learning college planning themselves.
What type of planning can you do for us?
It depends. We benefit business owners, executives and professionals who have income and/or assets that allow us to create “Tax Scholarships.” A Tax Scholarship is created when we use the tax code to reduce taxes and thereby increase the cash available to pay for college expenses.
Why parents should care their financial planner is also a Certified College Planning Specialist (CCPS)?
A CCPS is first of all a financial planner in good standing — some one who knows the ins and outs of managing your money specifically for college. But more important a CCPS knows the best ways of obtaining the kinds of college funding that will best fit your income, your goals, and your lifestyle. He or she has met the rigorous requirements of the National Institute of Certified College Planners’ (NICCP) to attain the CCPS certification. In order to retain the certification, a CCPS must refresh and expand this expertise regularly by obtaining 12 hours of continuing education credits in college planning every year.
