Judges are the decision-makers in a courtroom. They interpret the law, referee the feuding parties, and arrive at a decision based on facts presented. A good judge must remain impartial to ensure the fair application of laws. In essence, judges function as the assurance to the legal system to make sure everyone gets their proverbial “day in court.”
In today’s edition of the Top Career 100 interview series, we will be joined our federal judge guest Hon. Irma E. Gonzalez (Ret.). Judge Gonzalez joined Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services, Inc. (JAMS) with three decades of experience in the judiciary system.
Her judicial career began when she was appointed to the United States District Court for the Southern District of California in 1992, serving as Chief Judge from 2005 to 2012. Highly regarded among counsel for her fairness and deep knowledge of legal issues, Judge Gonzalez brings an experienced approach to resolving even the most complex and contentious disputes.
Her background makes her an ideal arbitrator, mediator, and special master for cases involving a wide range of issues, including business, class action, employment, intellectual property, and securities matters, among others. Judge Gonzalez is also fluent in Spanish.
