Museums are a great resource for people to learn about science, history, art, and culture. The collections of artifacts and objects exhibited serve as educational tools. Museum educators, different from curators, focus on the development and design of learning programs that utilize these items on display to reach the general public through participation.
For the 99th episode of the Top Career 100, let’s join Felicia Gopaul, founder and president of the College Funding Resource, as she interviews our Museum Educator guest–Catherine Kenyon.
With more than two decades of experience in museum and non-profit management in the arts and humanities under her belt, Catherine has successfully raised funds throughout her career from corporate sponsors, government and foundation grants, as well as private donors.
Aside from that, she has helped various organizations and groups by seeking creative funding opportunities for programs, and welcomed progressively complex opportunities to work with donors throughout her career.
Let’s get to know her in this interview series as Felicia and Catherine talks about different interesting things about the profession of a museum educator, including:
- How curator and museum educator differ in terms of their expertise
- What’s her story in becoming a museum educator
- How internship has developed her skills and knowledge to become an effective museum educator
- What are some of the key points that every aspiring museum should know about
- What are some of the major responsibilities of a museum educator
- Her advise to those who are considering this kind of career path
