Modern technology has significantly changed how people read books.  The traditional craft of bookbinding has become a rare art to ensure that the literary world will continue for the next generations.  Equally important are conservators who contribute to the preservation of art and literary works for museums and libraries.  Working together, they can protect the world’s most precious books written generations ago.

In this edition of Career 100 Podcast, join Felicia Gopaul as she interviews a couple, Monique Lallier and Donald Etherington, world renowned bookbinders and conservator, respectively.

Don Etherington is a nationally and internationally recognized conservator for his innovative design and implementation of state-of-the-art conservation procedures, including phased preservation programs for libraries and institutions, Don brings over 45 years of professional experience to the president’s chair at ECS.

Just like her husband, Monique Lallieer is also a world-renowned bookbinder and an active member of the American Academy of Bookbinding (AAB). Her bindings are in major collections and libraries throughout the world as well as in major private collections.
