Lonnie McCaskill was born and raised in Dallas Texas and has spent his early years collecting reptiles and volunteering at the Dallas Zoo and later worked full time there for 10 years–working with everything, from great apes, black rhinos, and later in the reptile department. In 1994, he was hired by the White Oak Conservation Center in Yulee Florida to work with the Rhino and African hoof stock collection. Some three years after, he became part of the opening team at Animal Kingdom. He also got involved with the Turtle Survival Alliance since its inception in 2001 and currently serves as a Board Member and Advisor for the TSA India Program. Apart from that, he is also part of the Steering Committee of the AZA Crocodile Advisory Board and the IUCN Crocodile Specialist Group where he gives advise and work with Flora and Fauna International on Siamese Crocodile conservation work in Cambodia. Over the years, he has been involved in conservation in Costa Rica, Belize, Gabon, South Africa, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, India, and Thailand.
