Eleanor Breen is a Historical Archaeologist who directs the archaeology program at George Washington’s Mount Vernon where she works since 2001. Eleanor has excavated sites in the mid-Atlantic region, many of which pertain to her research interests in plantation and African American archaeology.
Her interests also include public archaeology and the dissemination of archaeological information to wide audiences. Recently, she oversaw an initiative called Archaeological Collections Online– the creation of an e-museum focused on Mount Vernon’s most significant site pertaining to the Washington households. Eleanor is a PhD candidate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and her dissertation research explores differential access to goods during the eighteenth-century consumer revolution utilizing documentary and archaeological datasets from Mount Vernon.
