For someone who is people-oriented and loves to travel, being in a career that gives the combination of both worlds is a dream come true. In this edition of the Career 100 podcast, Felicia Gopaul interviews Liz Parrish who will impart to us her experiences as a hotel manager/lodge owner, and the reasons for her major career change leading to fulfilling her dreams.
Liz Parrish majored in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Rice University in Texas and then began a high tech career in California’s Silicon Valley. After 21 years in a number of management and marketing start-up and large corporate positions, she then had a major career change. Growing up in the Midwest, it was where she discovered her passion for travel and for dogs at an early age. She moved to Southern Oregon and bought Crystalwood Lodge and turned it into a pet-friendly destination resort which also enabled her other dream of developing her own sled dog team and completing the 2008 Iditarod Sled Dog Race in celebration of her 50th birthday. Along the way, she met and conquered challenges and spent a lifetime for the twin challenges of owning a lodge and completing the Iditarod. She lives by the motto, “Quitting is NOT an option.”
